With Monday’s resignations of two notable researchers, the Ethereum Foundation has lost eight high-profile members in the last few months. Carl Beek and Julian Ma, two researchers with the Ethereum Foundation, departed after four and seven years, respectively.

Ma contributed to the Ethereum network’s censorship-resistant features and cross-layer bridge algorithms and design, while Beek helped build the Beacon Chain, which allowed proof-of-stake on the Ethereum network. Five high-profile developers and researchers have left the Ethereum Foundation this year, including Ma and Beek; five of these individuals departed in May alone.

Ma said in an X post that he was leaving the Ethereum Foundation, adding that although the organization is great, it isn’t the right fit for his future plans. More attention will be devoted to developing products and strategies for growth. Beek will be spending time with his wife and one-month-old kid before his departure on May 29th, as he stated in an X post.

Last year, Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, announced major leadership changes and a new path for the Foundation, taking a position against user criticism of the blockchain’s long-term plan management. Buterin is looking for new brains to rethink the protocol and make it faster and more efficient.

Earlier this month, the Ethereum Foundation made an announcement on the departure of Barnabé Monnot and Tim Beiko, the team leaders of the Protocol Cluster, as well as Alex Stokes’s sabbatical.

Josh Stark, a key researcher and project manager, and Trent Van Epps, a contributor to the Ethereum Foundation, both announced their departure from the organization in April. In February, the organization’s co-executive director, Tomasz Stanczak, announced his resignation.
